Add(bfld Activity Date); Bound Field bfld Activity Hours = new Bound Field(); bfld Activity Hours. Add(bfld Activity Hours); Command Field cfld Delete Button = new Command Field(); cfld Delete Button. Here is the C#code to bind the data to the gridview Service1 My Service = new Service1(); ds Main Data = My Service. Add(cfld Delete Button); It's data source is a Dataset retrieved from a webservice. So, I thought that maybe I needed to configure it via the actual aspx file. When I take a standard Grid View, bind it to a Data Table and dynamically wrap it in an Update Panel at run-time, the Row Updating event stops firing my handler. Within my custom control Init event I was examining the Page. Controls collection and taking each control matching my criteria and wrapping it in an Update Panel. I tried to get the Custom Control to react to the On Pre Init event of the page so I could fix things in the way you had suggested. I suspect the fact that I have hid it working at all from within a Custom control ws just luck and really I was probably having lots of issues happening that I didn't even see! I have to make gridview as a templet which contain some 20 column and 5 rows etc. things to keep in mind:* use the preinit event to add the controls* remove the gridview from the control collection since it shouldn't be rendered (it would be event better if you build a method that creates the grid; however, it seems like you want to wrap controls that exist on the page, so maybe that won't be possible)*i've changed the code that gets the text from the cells. as allways, no garantees on this code : WOW, fabulous, thanks Luis!!!!It will wipe out those link or button controls and replace them with simple text string. The article Add, Edit, update, Delete gridview was added by anjankant on Friday, July 09, 2010.Everything is working fine on my gridview except the Update. I've researched the problem and tried various solutions I've seen, but no luck.I'm hoping someone else can see something that I'm missing. Net 2.0, Grid View Control also provides the functionality to edit and update the data retrieved from the database using Command Field template.
Even comments about manipulating the page controls collection from within a custom control on the page - am I breaking best practice here? Then When i add new row or column at runtime ,then that newly add cell also contain control. good day to all, i'm also having the problem of the Grid View1_Row Updating event not firing... the gridview is inside an update panel and the columns are generated in code behind...
The column that Grid View creates for command fields (Edit, Delete and Select) are a (anchor) or button elements.
So you can see what will happen if you set text value in that cell.
I am using a SQLData Source to populate my gridview in ASP. When I hit Edit, the textboxes appear and I am able to edit my values. I am using a SQLData Source to populate my gridview in ASP. When I hit Edit, the textboxes appear and I am able to edit my values. In the Row Editing function, the edit textboxes appear and I can get the "old" values Then the page renders, I edit the textboxes and hit Update.
When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. Then the page posts back, the text boxes go back to being labels and the new values are lost, and the Row Updating code never fires. Yes, I did put the breakpoint at the Row Updating line (and not in the function).
